I just started a new temporary gig doing some medical transcription at home. (And boy oh boy am I glad it's temporary. There's no way I could do this on a daily basis!)
While typing up some transcriptions last night, I had to rewind and listen to a particular word a doctor was saying several times, just to make sure I understood what he was saying. After finally figuring out what I thought he was saying, was indeed what he was saying, I giggled about it and shrugged it off as maybe he was reading from his chart and not really thinking about what he was saying. But then a few more sentences in, he said it again. And then again.
I figured of all people in the world, doctors (and for the record, a doctor who's transcriptions sound very much like English is his first language) would pronounce parts of the human anatomy correctly. This particular doctor was pronouncing the word penis as Pen-Is.
Of course, what do I know? Maybe it really is pronounced that way. I have to admit, it sounds a little better than the actual pronunciation. I'm betting from now on the word Pen-Is will become a regular word in our house. Go ahead, I dare you to say it without giggling.

Remind me never to visit this doctor.

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
I didn't decide to cook dinner for my mother-in-laws birthday, and yet again have 14 people crammed into my house on Saturday. And if I had, I sure as heck wouldn't have made prime rib for everyone. (We won't even talk about how much a 12 pound prime rib costs - even on sale!)
And surely if I had cooked a big meal on Saturday, I wouldn't host a Superbowl party on Sunday. I'm not a glutton for punishment or anything.
If I was hosting two dinner parties in the same weekend, I'd make sure that I actually had a dishwasher, or at least have kids old enough to do the dishes for me. I wouldn't hand wash that many darn dishes two nights in a row!
And of course my husband didn't decide to rearrange the living room just hours before the Super Bowl and break our entertainment center. He didn't scramble around finding screws just minutes before people arrived to rig it back together until we can replace it. We didn't spend all night telling people to not get to close to the tv.
(And we won't talk about how incredibly
Three Things Thursday - Books I Love

I love to read, always have and probably always will. I remember telling my mom that I couldn't wait to go to school so I could learn how to read. Reading is the perfect way to get away from the 'real' world for a while and visit another place, another time, or just another type of life. While it's impossible for me to choose a favorite book, here are 3 that I have read more than once, and can honestly say I loved.
Just As Long As We're Together... I read them all a dozen times as a kid. Summer Sisters was the first of Judy Blume's books for adults that I read, I was so glad that I picked it up. It's the story of 2 friends, and how their lives intertwine and change over the course of 6 summers spent in Martha's Vineyard and what happens in their lives after those summers.
One Child - Torey Hayden
I actually first read this book in high school after I stumbled across it doing research for a report I was writing. It's a true story of a special needs teacher (the author) and a little girl named Sheila, who is put in her class while awaiting an opening in a state hospital. It's an uplifting, and sometimes heartbreaking, story. There needs to be more Torey Hayden's in this world.
So, what's your favorite book?
Have you read my blog?

Some bloggers seek out these pitches, and more power to them, but frankly I'm quite happy when I open my email in the mornings and have a whopping 10 emails. Lord knows I can't afford to hire someone to read them all for me if I were getting some huge number on a daily basis.
Now, that's not to say I haven't been pitched a few times. The few times I have been pitched have been for items that I can see somehow relating to my blog. A few months ago I got pitched by a yogurt maker to review their baby line of yogurts. Now anyone who actually reads my blog, knows I don't have a baby, but I can see how this would get pitched to me. I'm a mom, and I have a mommy blog. It's not that far of a stretch.
But an email I got yesterday still has me shaking my head in amazement. The email started like most normal pitch emails - 'I found your blog online and think you'd be a perfect fit for our company' yada, yada, yada. But when I got to the part of what they wanted me to review, I literally reread it 4 times just be sure I was reading it right. I got pitched to review a 'dating site geared for 18 to 25 year olds'. Below is a copy of the email I sent in reply:
Dear XXXXX,
Thanks for your interest having your company reviewed on My Own Party of 5. I have just a few quick questions for you: Have you read my blog? Have you even looked at my blog? Did you somehow miss the header with the pictures of my 3 kids? Did you do a quick look around my blog, perhaps go to my About Me page? If you'd taken just a few minutes of time to really decide I was the 'perfect fit for your company' you'd have realized that I am, in fact, the farthest thing from a perfect fit possible. Unless of course, nearly 30 year old, happily married moms to 3 kids are the ideal consumer for your dating website.
It will be interesting to see what kinds of blogs this site actually get reviewed on.
