While typing up some transcriptions last night, I had to rewind and listen to a particular word a doctor was saying several times, just to make sure I understood what he was saying. After finally figuring out what I thought he was saying, was indeed what he was saying, I giggled about it and shrugged it off as maybe he was reading from his chart and not really thinking about what he was saying. But then a few more sentences in, he said it again. And then again.
I figured of all people in the world, doctors (and for the record, a doctor who's transcriptions sound very much like English is his first language) would pronounce parts of the human anatomy correctly. This particular doctor was pronouncing the word penis as Pen-Is.
Of course, what do I know? Maybe it really is pronounced that way. I have to admit, it sounds a little better than the actual pronunciation. I'm betting from now on the word Pen-Is will become a regular word in our house. Go ahead, I dare you to say it without giggling.

how did you get into medical transcription? I have a healthcare type background and am trying to find something flexible that can be done at home!
